High Street Project: Lane to Arcadia

High Street at Hudson Before Work Began

Overview:

Project limits: Lane to Arcadia on High Street, including all side streets up to the first alley, Dodridge Street to Neil Avenue and north on Neil to Glen Echo Ravine. Hudson Street work extends from Neil to East Avenue.

This project will make it easier and safer for cars, bikes and pedestrians to get into and through this important neighborhood. This project will revitalize this mix of residences and businesses known as Old North Columbus.

Improvements:

  • Storm sewers to alleviate flooding during heavy rain storms and to keep waterways cleaner by separating sanitary sewers and storm water

  • Water lines

  • Sidewalks

  • Curbs, including ADA curb ramps

  • Traffic signals

  • Smooth, repaved road surface

  • Improved and widened intersection at Hudson and High streets.

  • 85 decorative street lights

  • Moving overhead utility lines underground

  • Street trees

  • Two over-the-road arches…..one at Lane, the other at Arcadia….to welcome people to Old North Columbus

This section of High Street will be signed for motorists and bicyclists…as part of the 8-mile share-the-road corridor from Downtown all the way to Morse Road. Forty new bicycle racks will be placed in this area.

Construction Cost: $15.8 million, including inspection.

Traffic will be maintained on High Street. Expect some short-term closures or restrictions on Hudson Street and various side streets in the project area. The project is expected to start in June 2008 and be complete by the fall of 2009.
