More than 800 Employees of the Columbus Department of Public Service provide a variety of basic services to residents of the City of Columbus, including trash collection, parking management and enforcement, snow removal, and pothole patching.

The Department also maintains roadways, supervises design of street improvements and street resurfacing, oversees construction of wheelchair ramps that meet the standards of the American with Disabilities Act, guides installation of sidewalks near elementary schools in Columbus, and inspects public and private construction projects.

Installation of street signs and signals, selection of traffic-calming measures, and implementation of other traffic engineering projects also fall to the Department.

Keep Columbus Beautiful is the Department’s award-winning program for volunteer community litter cleanups, beautification and recycling education, and through Paving the Way, the Department provides central Ohio road construction information, including information on detours around major projects, to motorists.

The Department of Public Service currently provides the following services:

Our Mission:

To provide high standards of excellence in the delivery of improved transportation, infrastructure and basic city services; promote partnerships to resolve neighborhood concerns; and ensure accountability to the public.

Our Vision:  To build a team that is customer friendly and responsive, enjoys the unqualified support of City Council and the Administration of Mayor Michael B. Coleman, and recognizes the value of each person working within the Department.

We are committed to operating a department that will deliver an optimal level of customer satisfaction, and our team of employees will exemplify the integrity, respect, and leadership that the people of Columbus have come to expect. We will empower our staff with ownership by involving them in the planning and decision-making process and by providing quality job training, as we join the Mayor in transforming Columbus into America’s 21st Century City.
